Charles Everett Loden is a seventh generation officer in provincial police law enforcement. Charles’ father was a proud member of the Ricovia Police Force, as was his grandfather. His grandfather was born in Garriston Province. He also has uncles, great uncles, and cousins that served or are serving in Haggleston, Garriston, and Victoria provinces. While his grandfather retired as a Sergeant in the Ricovia Police Force before he was born, his father was killed during a drug raid in the south-west side when he was only eight years young.
Charles was raised by a strict mother and even stricter grandparents in a modest household, in spite of their sufficient wealth. It was made abundantly clear to Charles from the start, he would have to earn his place in the family by working his way to the top on his own. He was not allowed any luxury from his family history or reputation. Charles graduated his primary schools with a perfect 4.0, and his middle schools with a 3.95 because he was forced to suffer a “B” in history. He graduated with a 3.85 from high school after struggling with advanced algebra. He was accepted to the police academy immediately afterwards, and he was an almost obsessive student. When other students went on vacation, he stayed behind and studied. He was forced to vacate the barracks during winter break when the academy closed down for general cleaning and maintenance. During the summer, he would take summer classes and training camps. He was determined to make his grandfather proud and be worthy of his father’s memory.
The loss of his father at such a young age is likely responsible for Charles’ unusual level of empathy toward the victims he encountered during his early career, not the least of which is Rissa Cavela, the innocent target and pawn in the power struggles between her father and The Organization. If not for the timely intervention of Chief Inspector Sherman “Sho-Tahn” Tanner, the career of Charles’ Loden would likely have been short and inglorious.
