Jon Musler is the engineer and family man in the Ricovia Book Series met by Sherman “Sho-Tahn” Tanner at the North Avenue Bank.
Jonathon Frederick Musler was born and raised in Endovia Province to lower middle income parents Richard and Marion Musler, life long residents of Endovia. Jon’s father was an eighth grade educated union iron worker. His mother was a high school educated housewife. Jon was the third of eight children, five boys and three girls. The oldest was Jon’s brother Jacob who was five years older, and second was his sister Annette who was just two years older than Jon. Two years younger was his second sister Amy, followed by twin brothers Ansel and Andrew who were five years younger, brother Ralph at seven years younger, and the youngest was sister Leandra who was ten years younger than Jon.
Jon and his extended family all attended the Endovia Primary Institute until the eighth grade. At the insistence of both father and mother, John and his siblings went on to attend the Endovia Institute for Secondary Education for grades nine through twelve, during which time Jon showed particular promise in the areas of math and physical science and graduated near the top of his class. Jon also showed a passion for electricity and electrical wiring and pestered his parents constantly for new building kits and construction sets where he could indulge his passion. After graduation from the twelfth grade, Jon’s oldest brother joined his father’s union. His oldest sister went to nursing school and married a doctor. They continue to live in Endovia Province.
Jon went on to the Endovia Engineering Institute and majored in electrical engineering. He stayed on another five years and earned his masters degree. During this time that Jon’s life took a sad turn. His sister Amy was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer during his second year. His brother Ralph died in a car accident in his third year, and Amy lost her battle with cancer during his fourth year.
After graduation, Jon could not stay in Endovia any longer and moved to Ricovia Province. He took a starting position at the Leonard Institute as an electrical engineer working on simple household appliances. A year later, he met Loita Petrov while stopping for coffee at a convenience store. It was love at first sight, and they were married a year later. Shortly after their daughter Angelica was born, the institute announced the establishment of an electronics research program, and Jon immediately jumped on board. Jon invested two years into the project, but six months after their son Franklin was born, the entire program was cut along with Jon’s position at the company.
